Of course, Dave Roe teaches Bass Licks and Techniques. But this DVD
is more than "just another bass video". Drawing
on his years of experience, both live and in the studio, Dave
teaches the style that allowed him to play Stand Up Bass for
the Legendary Johnny Cash from 1992 until the end of Johnny's
playing career, as well as explaining what it takes to be
a top session player.
The lesson covers Roots Music, Rockabilly, Latin
and Country in addition to Hillbilly Slap Bass techniques.
Understanding that being a Pro is more than just licks, Dave
also discusses basses, both Acoustic and Electric, strings,
amps, recording sessions, attitude and knowledge. Most everything
you need, whether you want to come to a Major Music Center
like Nashville, New York or L.A., or simply want to be a better
and more professional bassist in your own home town.
On this DVD, Dave shows the styles and licks you
need, then plays it with his band, to show how it works, and
finally allows you an opportunity to play along without him.
Our Video Director, who is not a bass player, said "By
the time I got to the end of this video, even I understood
what Dave was teaching."
Ken Soper, Musical Director; Joe Diffie, Rockin'
Roadhouse Tour (w/ Tracy Lawrence, and Mark Chestnut), Producer/Arranger
for Herringbone Records says:
"I've worked with Dave Roe for years on stage
and in the studio. I didn't realize that he was also a fantastic
teacher. Dave's approach to slap bass is clear, even for a
non-bass-playing musician. The lessons begin simply and progress
at a natural pace toward greater complexity. I particularly
like the "music minus one" segments where you're
shown a lesson, then get to play along with the session cats
without a bass track. Roe's easy-going manner and professionalism
are evident in this DVD, and I consider it a necessary part
of any bass player's library."
